Because PEG has good water solubility, adding PEG into the resin can greatly improve the performance of the resin. These resins include alkyd resins, methacrylic resins, polyurethane resins and natural resins.

Substituting PEG for glycerin can improve the toughness of the resin. For shellac (lac), PEG can produce a water-soluble resin that is not acid-precipitated. Adding PEG to the polyurethane resin can improve its strength and elasticity, and at the same time make the surface of the resin bright and shiny.

In resin coatings, low-molecular-weight PEG can easily dissolve the resin, while high-molecular-weight PEG can improve the dry film properties of the resin.

Using PEG instead of ethylene glycol can prepare unsaturated polyester resins, and PEG fatty acid esters are excellent plasticizers for polyethylene resins and other resins.

PEG is used as an auxiliary agent in the plastics industry, for example, as a lubricant during extrusion molding, and a release agent during mold molding.

PEG ester is a good antistatic agent in PVC belts. Other advantages of PEG are its good high temperature stability, low toxicity and good miscibility with PVC products.
